This collection of Old Japan Figurines i consider to be the best example of what Japan has contributed to the world of small and affordable music boxes. All the figurines are done in the same style and coloring, are well executed in detail and are easily recognizable. They can even be compared with Hummel's. I estimate the period they were being produced as the sixties and seventies (no markings, therefore an estimate). A great many different objects in this style were produced of which this collection gives an idea, although it is not complete by a long shot.
All 4 figurines are from the same mold, but some differences exist. The main difference in my opinion is the left arm of the girl which in #1 is close to the cat's face and in following #'s 2, 3 and 4 get ever further from the cat's face. Also #4 does not have a Price label but lettering/stencil under pedestal (E.A.Price Inc in stead of Price Imports for other three and carries date 1977, none of the others have dating). Also the green from #4 is different, more brilliant than other 3. But all 4 carry the same tune (which i cannot name, unfortunately). There are some small other differences in coloring, ribbons in hair from yellow to red and in between, etc. Also, #4 weighs 0.85 lbs while the other 3 each weigh 1.0 lbs, so there must be a production difference. And #'s 1 and 2 are about one inch smaller in height, girl seems to squat more, just production variances in time, i believe.
