From the 4 monks standing, 3 carry a song book. It is not clear what the 4th one, second from the left, carries. A prayer book in the left hand.? Certainly not a song book, as the hands are pointing up, not horizontal as for the other 3 monks. I looked at the hands under a loupe and cannot find any work done on it. Therefore as per original production. It is possible that something was fixed to the outer right hand, but no way of knowing that, also as this is the first one of this kind I have seen and know of no other examples. Probably from the sixties bor seventies. In the foreground is a tray, but too small for pencils, ballpoints, etc. Did this have a religious meaning?
