The box takes 2 AA batteries, in the red 'pipe' on the side
With the batteries installed, the plastic white switch in the back on On (to left), the music starts and the light, lighting the whole house, comes on and stays on, even when the music stops (to be rewinded) and the light only comes off when the switch is put back on off (to the right). Works well. Photo's of house taken with the light on.
