The item takes 4 C batteries to light up the screen from the back. The holder for the batteries is on the right top.The winder for the music box and rotating screen is the yellow plastic knob on top as well. The bulb for the lighting can be reached via the yellow piece on the bottom. No on/off switch. Music and screen work well. Other information on box: ' Caution.
